Sculpture at Ca' D'oro

The works at the Ca' D'Oro, much like the building, are graceful and elegant. We went with our guide, who spoke approvingly of the last private owner, Baron Giorgio Franchetti, who donated the building and many art works to the city of Venice.

He completely restored the palazzo, including creating a Byzantine fantasy in the beautiful courtyard. The last time we were here, the courtyard was completely covered with water from an aqua alta.

The Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca’ d’Oro is currently hosting a lovely show highlighting sculptures that range from an early Donatello to Alessandro Vittoria. Absolutely exquisite works.

On the piano nobile is a wonderful loggia, one of my favorite places to stand and look at the traffic on the Grand Canal.
